Tom Brady says he wouldn’t do Netflix roast again: ‘I didn’t like how it affected my kids’

If we’re not laughing about things, we’re crying about them.

At least that’s what Tom Brady said on “The Pivot Podcast” on Tuesday, reflecting on his recent three-hour Netflix roast.

The roast didn’t spare any jokes at the expense of the seven-time Super Bowl champion. His divorce from Gisele Bündchen, Spygate, Deflategate and Brady’s relationship with Alex Guerrero were all punchlines.

“I loved when the jokes were about me, I thought they were so fun. I didn’t like the way it affected my kids,” Brady told hosts Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder.

“It’s the hardest part about — the bittersweet aspect of — when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize, I wouldn’t do that again because of the way that it affected, actually, the people that I care about the most in the world.”

The roast wasn’t all laughs, on Brady’s part at least. Comedian and host Kevin Hart’s opening monologue went heavy on jokes about Bündchen and her reported new boyfriend, but the most awkward moment came when comedian Jeff Ross made a joke about New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and massages.

After he said it, Brady stood up from his seat and went over to Ross, seeming to say, “Don’t say that s— again.”

Yet Ross was a sweet escape for Brady during the days where Patriots controversy dominated headlines, and part of the reason Brady opted in to the jab fest in the first place.

“When I was going through all the Deflategate stuff in 2015, 2016, I watched three things on TV: I watched Premier League soccer, I watched golf and I watched comedy shows because every time I turned on SportsCenter I was like, ‘Are you f— kidding me?’ So I was like, I just want to laugh,” Brady said. “So I wanted to do the roast because the guy Jeff Ross became someone that I knew.”

“You don’t see the full picture all the time. It’s a good lesson. I’m gonna be a better parent as I go forward because of it. At the same time I’m happy everyone who was there had a lot of fun.”
