The Tennessee Titans are hiring Kansas City Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi as their next general manager, a team source confirmed on Friday.

Borgonzi, who was promoted to assistant GM in 2021, spent 16 seasons with Kansas City. Borgonzi served as the club’s director of football operations from 2018 to 2020.

Borgonzi was a diligent lieutenant for Chiefs GM Brett Veach during the team’s run of winning three Super Bowls in five years. As assistant GM, Borgonzi supervised the team’s college and professional scouting operations and supported Veach with roster management and player acquisitions, according to his Chiefs bio.

Tennessee’s hiring of Borgonzi comes 10 days after it fired Ran Carthon. Tennessee went 3-14 and finished last in the AFC South this past season and went 9-25 in Carthon’s two years as executive vice president and GM.

The Titans interviewed Borgonzi virtually on Sunday and in person on Wednesday. He was one of six finalists who the Titans brought in for in-person interviews. The others were Ian Cunningham (Chicago Bears assistant GM), Ed Dodds (Indianapolis Colts assistant GM), Terrance Gray (Buffalo Bills director of player personnel), John Spytek (Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant GM) and Jon-Eric Sullivan (Green Bay Packers vice president of player personnel).

Borgonzi becomes the third GM in four seasons for Tennessee and inherits a team that finished second in total defense but 30th in points per game allowed and 26th in total offense under first-year coach Brian Callahan. He’ll also be in control of the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft for a team that could be looking for a new quarterback after second-year QB Will Levis struggled in 2024. The Titans are also projected to have about 44 million in cap space, according to Over the Cap.
