That “joy” we’ve seen the Democrats touting in conjunction with the Kamala Harris campaign is manifesting in dollars — lots of them. While the party faithful largely seemed glum about their prospects while President Joe Biden remained atop the ticket, it appears the sheer relief they felt at his being replaced has energized the Democrats — and juiced their fundraising.

According to an exclusive report from Reuters, Harris has hauled in nearly $500 million since she became the Dems’ candidate.

CHICAGO, Aug 20 (Reuters) – U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’ election effort has raised around $500 million since she became the Democratic presidential candidate, sources told Reuters, an unprecedented money haul that reflects donor enthusiasm going into the Nov. 5 election.

Four sources familiar with the fundraising effort told Reuters that figure had been banked for Harris in the four weeks since she jumped into the race on July 21.

Harris entered the fray after President Joe Biden stepped aside from the top of the Democratic ticket, unleashing floods of funding that had dried up in the weeks after Biden’s disastrous debate against Republican Donald Trump.

Harris raised $200 million in the first week of her campaign while she quickly wrapped up support to become the party’s nominee.

In contrast, former President Donald Trump, who outraised Biden in the second quarter, reportedly raised $138.7 million in July to add to his $327 million cash on hand. That’s nothing to sneeze at, either.

Still, nearly half a billion in a month is quite something. And, given that Harris’ pre-coup approval rating was south of 40 percent — and even now is just above it — one has to credit a healthy chunk of that haul to enthusiasm for the current president being given the heave-ho. If money talks, Democrats are shouting, “Thank you, Joe — now buzz off!”
