Ivan Lendl, the renowned tennis legend, has sold his expansive Connecticut estate for a record-breaking US$12 million, setting a new benchmark in Litchfield County.

The estate, spread across 445 acres in Cornwall, Connecticut, has been a subject of interest in the property market for nearly eight years, according to Mansion Global.

“The house has been off and on the market for about eight years,” disclosed Elyse Harney Morris, the listing agent who managed the sale alongside Bill Melnick, also from Elyse Harney Real Estate.

The final sale surpassed Litchfield County’s previous record by US$500,000.

Originally priced at $25 million in 2005, the property underwent several price adjustments before settling at a recent asking price of US$14.995 million.

Designed in 1992 by architect Allan Greenberg for Lendl and his wife, Samantha, the Georgian Federal-style mansion spans 1672sq m and boasts 10 bedrooms, 12 full bathrooms, and three partial bedrooms.

The property’s lavish indoor features include a pool, two locker rooms, a sauna, a workout room, and a gym.

Outdoors, the estate is graced with a three-bedroom caretaker’s cottage, a heated gunite pool with a cabana, and a range of facilities including a tennis court, a play court, a vegetable garden, a pond, and equestrian amenities.

Reflecting on the sale, Ms Harney Morris commented, “They saw it and fell in love with the land and the architecture and the presence of the house… How that house is situated on the piece of land is so beautiful and so private”.

The estate, a labour of love for Lendl, represented more than just a home.

“This was their full-time home, but as their kids got older and they were going back and forth to Florida, this became their summer-fall house,” Ms Harney Morris explained.

The buyer, represented by Kiara Rusconi of William Raveis, remains undisclosed. Lendl, a tennis icon who retired in 1994, with 94 singles titles and eight Grand Slam singles titles.
