Two suspects have been taken into custody in connection with a fatal shooting outside of a sprawling shopping center in Orange County Tuesday.
Details are limited and it’s unclear exactly how the violence occurred, but the incident at Fashion Island, located at 401 Newport Center Drive, unfolded around 3:30 p.m., with officials at the Newport Beach Police Department cautioning people to avoid the area due to police activity.
Aerial footage of the scene captured by Sky5 showed a heavy police presence outside the Atrium Shops & Cafes where a canopy had been set up to cover the deceased victim while detectives conducted the investigation.
The two suspects reportedly linked to the shooting then led police in a dangerous high-speed pursuit that ended in the South Gate area of Los Angeles County, near Paramount Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue.

Freelance photojournalists with the stringer news service OnScene.TV reported that officers with the California Highway Patrol took one of the suspects into custody, while another suspect was taken into custody a short time later.
In a message posted to X, formerly Twitter, Newport Beach Mayor Will O’Neill asked the public to avoid the area of Fashion Island and added that the “Suspects appear to have been chased up to L.A. area.”
No further details, including a motive for the shooting, have been released.
