NANTERRE, France — The summer of Summer McIntosh roared Saturday, with McIntosh’s third individual Olympic gold medal of these Games, this one coming in the women’s 200-meter individual medley.

McIntosh, 17, touched the wall in 2:06.56 to set an Olympic record and beat a loaded field. It was a star-studded affair featuring Kate Douglass, the reigning world champion, and her University of Virginia training partner Alex Walsh. Both Walsh and Douglass medaled in the event in Tokyo.

Douglass won silver Saturday with a time of 2:06.92. Australia’s Kaylee McKeown took bronze after Walsh was disqualified for an illegal turn from backstroke to breaststroke. Walsh was originally announced as the third-place finisher.

But these were Summer’s Games, and she could not be denied. McIntosh won gold in the 400-meter individual medley and the 200-meter butterfly earlier this week. Saturday night’s final was her last individual event of these Olympics, though she could participate as part of the women’s medley relay on Sunday night to add to her medal tally.
