Students will get a second day off from school this week because of the snow and ice that has fallen and is expected to fall in the Shenandoah Valley.

Staunton, Augusta County and Waynesboro public schools all announced that they will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 7.

“Due to icy roads and the possibility of additional precipitation overnight, SCS schools will be closed for students and staff tomorrow, 1/7/25.  Thank you,” Staunton Superintendent Garett Smith said in an email to students and families Monday afternoon.

Students have been out of school since Dec. 19, but were supposed to return Monday after the holiday break. Snow that began falling Sunday night has now delayed that return until at least Wednesday.

Accuweather is calling for “a little evening snow with little or no accumulation; otherwise, low clouds; slushy areas and standing water will freeze” for Monday night. The low is expected to be 15 degrees.

Augusta County Public Schools did post on its Facebook page that 12-Month employees are to report at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Waynesboro said that all scheduled before- and after-school evens and activities are also canceled Tuesday.
