You will not be at all shocked to find out that members of the anti-gunner lobby have been exploiting the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump to push for more gun restrictions.
As is typical of the anti-gunner crowd, their arguments are every bit as nonsensical as usual.
Anti-gunner activist David Hogg argued in a post on X that “If this can happen to a president with secret service, if this can happen in Parkland with a cop assigned to our campus, if this can happen in Uvalde with hundreds of police. STOP TALKING ABOUT GOOD GUYS WITH GUNS AND START DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THE GUNS.”

It’s the same argument the anti-gunners use whenever there is a mass shooting. Naturally, I had to respond with a question that tends to stop these people in their tracks:
How did the assassination attempt on Trump end, David? https://t.co/j8WG6gVoLB

Author Stephen King also chimed in after finding out the shooter used an “AR-style” rifle. He argued that “These are the guns the Republican party –and Trump—want to protect.”
An AR-15 style semiautomatic rifle was used in the Butler shooting. These are the guns the Republican party—and Trump—want to protect.

Everytown for Gun Safety, a premier anti-gunner outfit, referred to the shooting as an “unacceptable and a tragic reminder of our nation’s gun violence crisis” ad argued that “When guns are everywhere, for anyone, with no questions asked—no one is safe.”
This is unacceptable and a tragic reminder of our nation’s gun violence crisis. No one is immune from experiencing gun violence. When guns are everywhere, for anyone, with no questions asked—no one is safe. https://t.co/7ZyklT4HNh

It was recently revealed that the rifle the shooter used was registered to the gunman’s father, and investigators are looking into whether it had been purchased legally, according to two senior law enforcement officials. It is not clear how Thomas Matthew Crooks, the alleged shooter, obtained his father’s weapon.
Nevertheless, this has not stopped those seeking to disarm the populace from leveraging the assassination attempt to advocate for making it harder for regular law-abiding folks to keep and bear arms.
Yet, here is another question that tends to stop these people in their tracks, one that I ask after every high-profile shooting: What new gun restrictions would you recommend that would have stopped this assault?
This question always stops them in their tracks because there are no restrictions that would stop a bad actor from carrying out this type of attack. Moreover, these people are typically stopped by another person with a firearm. In this case, it happened to be Secret Service agents who prevented Trump from potentially being killed. But when has the truth stopped the anti-gunners?
