Moses “Shyne” Barrow is claiming he was “set up” to be blamed in the 1999 New York nightclub shooting that involved Sean “Diddy” Combs.

In a Monday, October 21, trailer released for the upcoming Hulu documentary The Honorable Shyne, Barrow, 45, is seen telling the cameras, “I was absolutely set up to be the fall guy.”

The trailer also includes audio of Barrow revealing that he struggled to accept the fall out of the Manhattan event, which saw Barrow convicted of first-degree assault in 2001 and sentenced to prison time while his Bad Boy Records label boss, Diddy, 54, was indicted on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon but acquitted of all charges.

“One of the most difficult parts of it was watching everybody succeed,” Barrow, who spent 10 years in prison, says in the teaser. “You know, watching 50 [Cent].” (Barrow met 50 Cent, 49, at Diddy’s Manhattan recording studio Daddy’s House around 2000.)

Diddy was accused of the shooting itself, which left three people injured, but the music mogul claimed during his trial that he fired the gun in self-defense.

Barrow’s time behind bars ended in 2009 when he was deported back to Belize. The former rapper has since entered the world of politics and currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Belize House of Representatives.

The trailer also covers Barrow’s career turn, as he tells the camera, “I spent 10 years in prison but I was able to move on. There’s a time to pivot. There’s a time to transition and that’s how I got into politics. Politics just came naturally because that made me have a purpose.”

Barrow recently spoke publicly about Diddy following his September 16 arrest on charges of racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution.

During a September press conference held in Belize, Barrow recalled the 1999 shooting and Diddy’s involvement. “When I was an 18-year-old kid, just wanting to do nothing other than make my mother proud and make Belize proud and … be recognized for my talent and take over the world. I was defending him and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me,” Barrow said at the time. “He pretty much sent me to prison.”

Barrow then expressed forgiveness towards Diddy, continuing, “Let us not lose sight of what the cold hard facts are. This is not someone who I vacationed with and someone who I enjoyed this great, intimate relationship of brotherhood. This is someone who destroyed my life, and who I forgave, and who I moved on, and for the better interest of Belize because he was in the position at that time to give scholarships and to maybe invest. I would not deny attempting to bring the investment to Belize and bring the contributions to education.”

Barrow, who joined Diddy on stage in England for a music event at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in November 2023, added, “But do I take any joy or any satisfaction with what he is going through? Absolutely not.”

In the trailer for The Honorable Shyne, which will premiere on Hulu on Monday, November 18, Barrow’s mother, Frances Myvette, is recorded saying, “He was betrayed.”

With a spotlight on the rapper’s alleged years of criminal activity — Diddy pleaded not guilty to the charges — Moses “Shyne” Barrow reminded the world of another dark chapter of Diddy’s […]

Diddy, who is currently incarcerated at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center as he awaits the commencement of his May 5, 2025 trial, has denied all charges in relation to his September arrest.

Diddy’s attorney Marc Agnifilo told Us Weekly at the time, “We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children and working to uplift the Black community.”

Agnifilo added, “He is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal. To his credit Mr. Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation and he voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts. These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.”

The Honorable Shyne premieres on Hulu on Monday, November 18.
