The details: Sausalito-based Serena & Lily was founded in 2003, and its California DNA shines through in the brand’s easygoing aesthetics. Most of the furniture is made in the US (this chair in North Carolina, more specifically) with a classic, casual-but-put-together look. Serena & Lily’s product range spans wallpaper, furniture, bedding, lighting, tabletop, and accessories—you could furnish the majority of your home with the brand if you’re a superfan.

Price: How much does it cost? Are there payment plans available?

The chair costs $3,698, though it’s currently 20% off and comes in at $2,958. Serena & Lily also accepts Affirm financing for orders placed online.

What are the upholstery or customization options? Did you choose any?

Customers are spoiled for choice with this one—as of this writing, there are 181 swatch-ready fabric options available, including ginghams, florals, and toiles. (Swatches are $2 apiece.) Plus you can take your pick from four different wood finishes.

What is the lead time for customization, manufacturing, and delivery?

Lead time for custom pieces ranges from six to eight weeks, though in-stock pieces come in two to three weeks.

What are the dimensions? How does it fit in your space? Would it be better suited for a different type of home?

My chair clocked in at 33 1/2″ high, 35″ wide, and 40″ deep overall, with an 18 1/2″ seat height and 26″ seat depth. That varies slightly from the measurements online (listed as 34″ high, 37″ wide, and 42″ deep overall, with a seat height of 18″ and seat depth of 24″). It’s beautiful and generously proportioned—my apartment, unfortunately, is not—and the chair would look its best in a medium-to-large-size room, where it could have space to show off its finer details from all angles.

Sit Test: Is it comfortable? Does it feel well made? Does the chair have a tendency to sag?

The construction is lovely on this one. I love the tight back and the welting details, which liven up the front and profile. Though this chair looks like it’d be a soft sit, it’s pleasantly firm and supportive; it’s possible it may break in a bit more over time, as I’ve only had it in my home for a few weeks. That said, it should be pretty sturdy, as it’s eight-way hand-tied—the gold standard for suspension construction. No signs of sagging whatsoever!

Is the chair suitable for particular decor styles and, if so, which?

Miramar would work best in homes that lean into traditional, transitional, coastal, or farmhouse style.

Is it durable and practical in a modern home?

This chair was my first foray into performance fabric at home, which I was excited to try out. Serena & Lily carries a wide range of Perennials fabrics—there are dozens to choose from, with options ranging from shirting-stripe chambray to tweed, palm prints, and polka dots. Mine came upholstered in a Perennials Basketweave textile in Chalk. These fabrics are made from solution-dyed acrylic, making them impervious to blights like mold, mildew, staining, and UV damage and definitely resilient for everyday living. (There are non-performance fabrics, too, if you want to go that way.)
