On Monday, Homeland Security agents conducted a raid on a Holmby Hills mansion in Los Angeles linked to rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and his production company, along with a simultaneous raid of Combs’ residence on Star Island in Miami. Early reports indicate the federal raids are related to a sex trafficking probe

In a statement, Homeland Security Investigations confirmed the raids, saying,

Earlier today, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New York executed law enforcement actions as part of an ongoing investigation, with assistance from HSI Los Angeles, HSI Miami, and our local law enforcement partners. We will provide further information as it becomes available.

The raids in both California and Florida were coordinated by the Homeland Security Investigations Human Trafficking Task Force, acting under a search warrant issued by the Southern District of New York. New York prosecutors have reportedly interviewed at least four Jane Does and one John Doe in relation to sex trafficking allegations, and a RICO case, with additional interviews anticipated.

Law enforcement sources indicated that federal authorities took action to seize Combs’ phones and computers before his scheduled trip abroad. Additionally, they indicated that more raids were planned on properties connected to the mogul in New York and Chicago.

Photos from the raids showed heavily armored vehicles, rifle-wielding officers, and helicopters flying overhead. The streets surrounding the homes were closed. At the Los Angeles property, federal agents were observed detaining individuals including two later identified as Diddy’s sons 30-year-old Justin and 25-year-old King, during the operation.

Combs’ sons were not arrested. They were merely held outside the premises while agents conducted their search. The property is owned by a division of Diddy’s record label, Bad Boy Entertainment, and one of his daughters.

Diddy has faced legal challenges, including four lawsuits alleging sexual abuse, all of which he has denied. Two of the suits included allegations of drugs and sexual assault incidents occurring in 1991 and 2003. One of those lawsuits, which involved a minor, was dropped, and the other filed last year under the New York Adult Survivors Act appears to remain open.

Another civil suit was brought last year by Combs’ former girlfriend Casandra Ventura, an R&B singer known as Cassie, whom he dated from 2005 to 2018. She accused him of years of sexual abuse. However, the situation took a sudden turn when the two parties reached a settlement the very next day.

Last month, the ‘Bad Boy for Life’ singer, was hit with a lawsuit by music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones alleging Combs and his sons were involved in a 2022 shooting in a Los Angeles recording studio, along with claims of sexual harassment, drugging, and threats during their time working together from 2022 to 2023. The suit also alleges Combs’ involvement in a “RICO enterprise” and a “sex trafficking venture,” including multiple sexual assault allegations.

Despite ongoing denials from Combs and his legal team, the situation remains contentious. On Saturday, court filings made through Jone’s legal representatives claim that Combs engaged in harassing behavior targeted at Rod’s 8-year-old daughter, the child’s mother, and his former partners.

It remains unclear if the investigations are connected to any of the accusers involved in the civil lawsuits. Former US Attorney’s Office prosecutor Neama Rahmani expressed grave concern about the hip-hop star’s situation, stating,

He is in a world of hurt right now. The Southern District of New York is one of the most prestigious in the country. If they’re bringing a case against him, Diddy has a lot to worry about.

What audiences will observe is that reckonings in abuse of power centralized in entertainment sectors are coming to fruition in the hip-hop world much like we saw with the #MeToo movement bringing down Harvey Weinstein and a similar series of events surrounding children’s television network Nickelodeon

This is a developing story, and Combs is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
