Samsara is expanding on its suite of artificial intelligence offerings with its new tool, Samsara Intelligence.
It’s designed help commercial fleet managers make decisions using insights gleaned from their own drivers’ data.
Samsara Intelligence allows fleet customers to gain expanded access to a range of AI solutions tailored to streamline operations and drive smarter decision-making, including:
- Samsara Assistant: a generative AI tool that provides instant answers to complex operational questions
- Intelligent Experiences: offers embedded AI-driven recommendations and actions throughout Samsara’s platform to enhance operations processes
Samsara Intelligence combines AI technologies with real-world use cases to address the complex challenges fleet operations teams face.
“Whether it’s identifying risk to keep drivers safer on the road, replacing tedious data entry with a photo, or helping mechanics reduce asset downtime, Samsara Intelligence helps our customers operate smarter,” Samsara Chief Product Officer Kiren Sekar said.
Samsara Intelligence at a Glance
Samsara Intelligence is capable of processing more than 70 billion miles driven, 265 million digitized workflows, and 10 trillion data points each year.
The diversity and breadth of this data is used to accurately train AI models that surface insights, automate tasks, and help make better decisions, according to a news release.
Built for flexibility, Samsara Intelligence allows customers to fine-tune AI model sensitivity and customize workflows to suit their unique needs.
Samsara Assistant Answers Questions With Real Data
As part of the new offering, the company rolled out Samsara Assistant, a generative AI tool trained on Samsara’s petabyte-scale dataset that answers complex and timely operational questions – providing instant, actionable insights.
Think of it as an AI chat box where you can send a question in and get an answer using your fleet’s specific dataset. Samsara Assistant can deliver immediate answers to a wide range of questions that customers encounter daily.
While other AI language models like ChatGPT can answer basic questions about a variety of topics, Samsara Intelligence is tailored specifically for physical operations.
Samsara Assistant is a similar generative AI chat tool, but it includes domain-specific training from Samsara’s massive data set — processing over 10T data points each year, a company spokesperson told Automotive Fleet.
The scale and depth of this data helps ensure Assistant can provide answers to the most relevant and important questions our customers face.
Examples of how customers use Samsara Assistant include:
- Identifying vehicles with severe fault codes and receiving step by step instructions to resolve them.
- Spotting time-sensitive disruptions in daily operations, like unexpected stops, which might signal a driver is at risk or in need of assistance.
- Determining which drivers have the highest safety scores and should be recognized for their high performance.
- Understanding hours of service regulatory requirements for a new geography or vehicle type.
Fleet managers can also accelerate new-user onboarding and minimize time troubleshooting with immediate answers & helpful links.
Performance Food Group, the second-largest food distributor in the United States, is an early adopter of Samsara Assistant.
Thomas Olitsky, Vice President of Safety at Performance Food Group, said “Assistant is intuitive and helpful. It can enhance the productivity of the management team by enabling them to find answers and resources quickly and effortlessly.”
Intelligent Experiences Enhances Fleet Programs
Another piece of Samsara Intelligence is Intelligent Experiences, which offers various AI-driven recommendations and automations embedded directly into our platform to enhance worker safety, compliance, and training.
The multi-modal intelligence leverages all data across video, text, sensor, and diagnostics to make AI accessible for the frontline.
Specific visual, coaching, and training offerings for Intelligent Experiences include:
- Visual Intelligence: Empower workers with actionable insights from a photo. For example, identify safety hazards from a photo of a jobsite, measure storage capacity from a photo of a trailer, or provide proof of delivery records from a photo of a bill of lading.
- Positive Recognition: Recognize safe drivers with automated messages and kudos, helping to improve engagement and foster a culture of responsibility on the road.
- AI Course Builder: Improve safety and compliance while reducing administrative time by uploading policy and procedure documents to instantly create custom training modules.
Using AI in Fleet Operations
According to Samsara’s recent State of Connected Operations Report, more than half of leaders surveyed are already using AI, and 87% said they plan to increase investments over the next year.
Additionally, 90% of survey respondents report that their employees are excited about AI.
