Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Rodri will miss Manchester City’s Premier League opener at Chelsea on Sunday.

Guardiola also revealed that winger Oscar Bobb is due to undergo surgery on a fractured leg on Friday afternoon, with City expecting him to be back in action within “three to four months”.

Rodri only returned to training on Wednesday after helping Spain beat England in the European Championship final, a match in which he injured his hamstring, and Guardiola says there is “no chance” of him being in the squad that travels to London this weekend.

“He hasn’t trained, I didn’t see him yet,” the City manager said. “He looks good but we will see when he starts to move his body how he is.”

Bobb, who looked set to start the campaign following an impressive pre-season, fell awkwardly during training in midweek.

“Hopefully he is going to be well and he will be back as soon as possible in three to four months,” Guardiola said.

“We are so sad for him, not because he had an incredible pre-season, that doesn’t matter, when the injury is long-term it is a problem.

“We are looking forward to seeing him again as soon as possible.”

Guardiola also confirmed that City have had no proposals for Joao Cancelo, who has spent the last 18 months away on loan with Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

“In training we say ‘hi’, we talk, and train,” he added. “That’s all. About what’s going to happen, it depends on his agent and the club. And at the end, if he has to stay, we will treat him like all the other players we have done since I’ve been here.”
