Aurelien Tchouameni has withdrawn from the France squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League games.
The Real Madrid midfielder left camp on Monday with a left foot issue. He will now miss his country’s matches against Italy on September 6 and Belgium on September 9.
France head coach Didier Deschamps has called up Lazio midfielder Matteo Gueundouzi as his replacement.
Tchouameni will undergo further assessment by Madrid’s medical team, who say it is too early to comment on his availability for their next league fixture against Real Sociedad on September 14, although the injury is not thought to be serious.
The Frenchman missed Madrid’s Champions League final victory over Borussia Dortmund in June after suffering a stress fracture in the same foot during the semi-final second leg win over Bayern Munich.
Prior to the international break, the 24-year-old started all four of Madrid’s opening four La Liga fixtures.
Tchouameni has 36 caps for his country and played five times in France’s European Championship campaign in Germany.
Aston Villa left-back Lucas Digne was added to Deschamps’ squad earlier on Monday after Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy withdrew with a shin issue.
