The car is the third Lightweight Cobra Jet Mustang to roll off the assembly line, and it was the first of nine delivered to Paul Harvey Ford in Indianapolis, Indiana. Paul Harvey Ford used these cars for marketing and raced them extensively, cementing their legacy on the track. This particular Mustang spent a significant part of its life in Indiana, participating in local races before making its way to Colorado, where it continued its racing career. Eventually, the car was sold and relocated to Georgia.

Built on December 26, 1967, the Mustang is often referred to as one of the “135 Cars” or “VIN Series Cars.” Its engine compartment was stripped to bare metal and meticulously restored. The engine, recently rebuilt and dyno tested, boasts impressive performance figures: 494 pounds of torque and 407 horsepower. This level of power is a testament to the engineering excellence that Ford is known for, especially with their legendary 428 Cobra Jet engine.

The documentation accompanying this vehicle adds to its allure. It includes a Deluxe Marti Report, a December 1, 1967, intra-company communication from Ford, a December 26, 1967, announcement of the 428 Cobra Jet engine Mustang, and January 2, 1968, distribution documents. Additionally, original window sticker copies, itemized rebuild documents, and dyno sheets provide a comprehensive history of the car’s performance and maintenance.

This 1968 Ford Mustang Lightweight is more than just a car; it’s a piece of American racing history. Its journey from the assembly line to the race tracks of Indiana and Colorado, and now to a new generation of enthusiasts, highlights its enduring legacy. The combination of its rarity, documented history, and racing pedigree makes this Mustang a true collector’s item.
