Professionals Nowra is celebrating 50 years in the real estate business, serving a loyal clientele that spans several generations of families in the regional NSW town.

Founded in February 1975 by industry stalwart Clyde Poulton, the family-run agency has grown from a small independent business into the town’s longest continuously operating real estate office.

In 2006, the family business switched to the Professionals Real Estate group, and today Clyde’s son, Karl Poulton, leads the agency as Principal and Licensee.

“Dad has experienced first-hand how much this industry has evolved over the decades,” Mr Poulton said.

“When he started, he was on a first-name basis with the local photo developer in town, printing property images for window displays.

“This was long before digital listings, smartphones and online marketing.

“Not many real estate businesses can say they’ve lasted this long.

“More than 60 per cent of our business comes from repeat clients and referrals – people who trust us, generation after generation.

“Right now, I’m helping a 90-year-old client transition into supportive care, it’s the third home sale we’ve managed for her family.”

In 2020, Professionals Nowra expanded its footprint by acquiring Nowra First National, uniting two of the region’s longest-standing agencies under the Professionals banner.

“The move not only consolidated decades of local expertise but also reinforced the office’s market-leading position,” Mr Poulton said.

While Mr Poulton admits he never planned to join the real estate industry, he says his decision in 2004 to return to his hometown after attending university and working in Sydney was the right one.

“When my wife and I moved back to Nowra, I joined Dad in the business and I loved the friendships formed with clients,” he said.

“I particularly enjoy helping first home buyers get into the property market plus being a mentor to staff.”

“This business has always been about more than just selling homes – it’s about being part of the fabric of the community.

“Dad instilled in me the importance of giving back. He served as a local councillor and deputy mayor, and his legacy of service still resonates today.”

Now a third-generation family business, Karl’s wife, Amanda, plays a key role as General Manager, while their eldest daughter, Jorja, 21, is currently obtaining her property licence.

“Joining Professionals was a major decision, but we felt it was important to be part of a group, providing training and support,” Mr Poulton said.

“It can be a bit lonely in business at times so friendship and mentors are important.”

In October 2024, Mr Poulton was appointed to Professionals National Board of Directors after his tenure as Chairman on the Professionals Regional Council of NSW.

With a 12-member team, Professionals Nowra continues to guide first-home buyers, investors, downsizers, and tree-change seekers in navigating the local property market.

“The Nowra and Shoalhaven market remains strong, drawing in buyers with its lifestyle appeal and affordability,” Mr Poulton said.

“We’re proud to continue serving this community and evolving with its needs.”
