Pierre Gasly will remain with Alpine in Formula One for the 2025 season and beyond after signing a multi-year contract extension.

Gasly joined Alpine at the start of 2023 on a two-year deal that was due to expire at the end of this season.

But the Frenchman has now committed his long-term future to Alpine, with a new contact being announced ahead of this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix.

“While on-track it’s been a challenging season so far, I remain faithful to the project and I am not going anywhere,” Gasly, a one-time grand prix winner, said in a statement.

“I am happy with the changes made, the hard work, and the direction the team is taking. There is a lot of potential in this team’s personnel and resources.

“I’m excited for what is to come in the future and right now I’m focusing on the everyday details that we are putting in to improve our performances.”

Alpine suffered a downturn in form at the start of the season, dropping back from being a consistently scoring team to picking up just a single point in the opening seven races.

The dip came against the backdrop of a number of management and leadership changes in the past 12 months, which included the departure of team principal Otmar Szafnauer in July. Last week, Alpine revealed that Flavio Briatore, its former F1 chief, had returned as an executive director. It marked a formal return to F1 or the first time since his involvement in the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix Crashgate scandal that led to him being banned from the sport indefinitely.

Gasly extension further sews up 2025 driver market

Alpine has taken a step forward on-track in recent weeks with some car developments, allowing Gasly to score in each of the past three rounds.

Confirmation of Gasly’s future sews up another part of the F1 driver market for 2025, leaving one free seat at Alpine.

The team has already announced that Gasly’s teammate, Esteban Ocon, will leave at the end of the season.

Alpine is known to be in talks with current Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz over a possible deal, but faces competition from Williams and Sauber for the Spaniard’s signature.

Sainz, who will be replaced at Ferrari by Lewis Hamilton in 2025, said in Spain last week that he wanted to finalize his future soon. It is understood he is yet to make a final call on which team he will join.

Alpine said in announcing Gasly’s renewal that it would “announce Pierre’s teammate for the 2025 season in due course.”
