Jason Kelce has received a ton of support after he was caught on camera smashing the phone of a heckler who called his brother, Travis Kelce, a homophobic slur on Saturday, November 2. But one Philadelphia radio host is not OK with the former Eagles center’s behavior.
“Kelce has to realize that his profile is bigger than it ever was as a player,” PHLY Sports’ Jon Marks wrote on X Saturday, posting the video of Jason throwing the fan’s phone on the ground. “He’s making big $$$ across multile [sic] platforms and his brother might marry the biggest pop star ever. He can’t be spiking people’s phones. He needs security to deal with this s—.”
Marks is referring to Travis’ relationship with Taylor Swift, which has been going strong since the summer of 2023. The heckler in question poked fun at the Kansas City Chiefs star’s romance, allegedly screaming at Jason, 36, during an appearance at ESPN’s College Game Day at Penn State: “Kelce, how does it feel that your brother is a f—– for dating Taylor Swift?”
Jason was caught on camera smashing the person’s smartphone before quickly turning to walk away. In a video obtained by TMZ, Jason can be seen and heard asking, “Who’s the f—– now? Who’s the f—– now? Who’s the f—– now?” after being confronted by the person.
Many followers supported Jason’s actions in the comments section of Marks’ post, with one stating, “Show respect.. it’s simple. Guy got what he deserved.”
NFL players Jason and Travis, 35, have always been close, and currently host the “New Heights” podcast together. They also faced off in the 2023 Super Bowl, with Travis and the Chiefs beating the Eagles a year before Jason announced his retirement. He is now a commentator on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown.
Jason is also a huge supporter of Travis and Swift’s relationship, and recently attended her Eras Tour in Miami with his wife, Kylie Kelce, their eldest daughters Wyatt, 4, and Ellie, 3, and his and Travis’ mom, Donna Kelce.
Jason told Travis it was the “greatest show” and even contacted him to let him know the Miami date was “on another level.”
“I texted you halfway through it like, ‘This rain — Tay is killing it,” Jason said on the “New Heights” podcast on October 23 before explaining a viral photo of himself seemingly sleeping during the concert.
“I’m sitting here just like feeling it, and I’m tapping my thigh in the moment, and then all of a sudden I go on Twitter, and I see this f—ing picture, and I’m like, ‘Dude, what the f–k?’” Jason said, explaining that he was overwhelmed by the crowd staring at him and the family.
“I’m nervous about all these other people getting pictures with me and Ellie, and I’m trying to have a moment, and then all of a sudden I see this,” he said.
The Kelce clan has experienced a new level of fame since being associated with Swift, 34, as Jason admitted he and Kylie, 32, have seen how much attention Travis now receives.
“It’s been crazy [and] then Travis and Taylor have taken it to another level and that’s a whole other side of it,” Jason recalled during a June episode of the “Whiskey Ginger” podcast. “Like, Kylie and I think we have it bad and then we go hang out with one of them for a second. This is a whole other situation here [and] I don’t even know how to, like, you can’t be a normal person at that point.”
