There were so many headlines from yesterday’s action in Paris but the biggest concerned Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and his pursuit of an Olympic gold medal, the missing piece from the jigsaw of his illustrious career.
Facing Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, the man who beat him in the Wimbledon final less than a month ago, the 37-year-old completed the career Golden Slam.
In a match where there were no breaks of serve, Djokovic won 7-6(3), 7-6(2) after a pair of tiebreaks.
Speaking after the match, he said: “I don’t know what to say, I’m still in shock. I put my heart, my soul, my body, my family, my everything on the line to win Olympic gold. At age 37, I finally did it.”
