Avowed white supremacist Richard Spencer recently endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president of these here United States of America.

The revelation sparked national news coverage from the establishment media, with talking heads and columnists chiming in on the notion that a white supremacist would support a Black woman who is also a Democrat.

I’m just kidding. The legacy media has completely ignored this – and for good reason. Spencer publicly backing a Democratic presidential candidate makes it harder for them to argue that all the racism in the country is in the GOP.

Spencer referred to Harris as the “best manager of the American empire” and called on his minuscule number of supporters to vote for her on Election Day. This isn’t the first time the white supremacist has endorsed a Democrat. He proudly backed President Joe Biden in the 2020 election. “Liberals are clearly more competent,” he said at the time.

In fact, former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke has also supported Democrats in the past.

But why wouldn’t someone like Spencer, who detests everyone who has more melanin than he believes they should, support a Democratic candidate?

While the government, as a whole, has disproportionately harmed Black Americans throughout its history, Democrats have presided over some of the worst abuses. You might think I’m referring to slavery and Jim Crow, but I’m not. I’m talking about some of the most egregious harms Democrats have done to the Black community today.

Let’s start with education. Democrats are about as close with teachers’ unions as Minnesota Tim Walz is to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). These unions have worked their backsides off to impede educational reforms that could benefit Black students.

These include school choice initiatives and charter schools. Democrats are firm believers in the notion that the government is best equipped to decide where and how children – especially Black children – are educated.

Democrats’ stance on school choice limits educational opportunities for the same Black families they claim to champion. Even further, despite their constant calls for more funding for government-run schools in predominantly Black cities, the quality of education has remained depressingly low.

What about gun control? The Democrats’ cherished restrictions on firearms have resulted in the disproportionate criminalization of Black folks seeking to exercise their Second Amendment rights. For some, it might appear that most Black folks who carry firearms “illegally” are doing so because they are members of gangs. But this is not necessarily the case.

Between 2010 and 2022, Black people accounted for over 80 percent of arrests for illegal gun possession. In New York City, 96 percent of arrests for gun possession in 2020 involved Black or Latino citizens. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, who is not a fan of gun ownership, noted in 2022 that gun possession arrests disproportionately affect Black residents. He acknowledged the distinction between those who are engaging in violence and those who carry firearms “illegally” for self-defense.

A new report on federal firearm offenses shows that the vast majority involve illegal possession, often without aggravating circumstances or a history of violence. The data undermine the assumption that people who violate gun laws are predatory criminals who pose a serious threat to public safety. They also highlight the racially disproportionate impact of such laws, which is especially troubling given their excessive breadth.

In FY 2021, the U.S. Sentencing Commission (USSC) reported that 89 percent of federal firearm offenders were legally disqualified from owning guns, typically because of a felony record. Half of those cases involved “aggravating criminal conduct.” But in the other half, the defendant’s “status as a prohibited person solely formed the basis of the conviction.”

There is also the issue of crime. Over recent years, Democrats have deceptively claimed violent crime rates are dropping. A recent report revealed that, in reality, they are on the rise, which also disproportionately harms Black communities.

Efforts to reform the bail system were intended to reduce pretrial detention for nonviolent offenders. However, many of these reforms in cities like New York City, Chicago, and others have led to the release of violent criminals who often re-offend, further victimizing communities. In several instances, these efforts have led to increases in crime.

As it turns out, releasing violent people only results in more violence. Whoda thunk it?

Moreover, those pushing to defund the police in a way that makes for less policing in Black communities have only emboldened violent criminals. These were not initiatives to only combat the militarization of law enforcement or address other ways of maintaining public safety; they simply wished to have fewer police on the streets, another move that contributed to heightened crime rates. In cities like Minneapolis and Austin, residents reported longer response times.

Let’s also not forget the left’s favorite issue to exploit: Police brutality. Democrats have railed against police misconduct against Black Americans. Yet, they have done little to address this problem despite the fact that they govern most of the cities with higher Black populations.

Democratic lawmakers are often quite cozy with police unions, which can influence their stance on reform measures. These unions have historically pushed back against reforms that they argue would limit the ability of officers to do their jobs.

Despite vowing to pass major federal legislation to rein in police brutality, Democrats have refused to do so – even when they controlled the White House and both chambers of Congress. Do you remember when Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) introduced the “Justice for Breonna Taylor Act,” which would have banned the type of no-knock raids that led to Taylor’s death?

Whatever happened to that bill? Democrats controlled the legislative and executive branches, but the bill went absolutely nowhere.

In 2020, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) proposed the JUSTICE Act, which focused on data collection, training, and accountability for police officers. Yet, Senate Democrats blocked the bill, arguing that it did not go far enough in addressing systemic issues.

But, could they not have passed Scott’s bill and then pushed through more legislation to address the problems in law enforcement? Of course, they could have. But they didn’t. This is because they don’t actually care about police brutality. If they solve the problem, they won’t be able to run on it anymore, right?

Democrats excel at pretending to care about issues affecting the Black community while doing nothing to fix the problems. In this way, they are even more dangerous, because they lie about their intentions.

The reality is that if Democrats want to position themselves as the party that wants to solve the problems Black people face, then they have to keep those problems going to gain more support.

So, in light of this, I’ll ask the question again: Why the hell wouldn’t a white supremacist support them?
