Vice President Kamala Harris has been running from her socialist policy positions as fast as she possibly can on the campaign trail, doing her level best to attempt to convince the voting public that she is not a far-leftist politician who wants to make the government more bloated than it already is.
Harris has recently flip-flopped on a series of policy positions ostensibly to appeal to a wider swath of voters by moving closer to the center. The problem? It’s not going to work.
The New York Times highlighted a series of topics on which the vice president has seemingly backed off her more leftist positions. When it comes to fracking, she previously indicated that she opposed it. Yet, on Friday, she claimed she did not favor banning the practice any longer.
Former President Donald Trump brought this up during a Saturday rally in Minnesota. “She pledged to ban fracking. No fracking? Oh, that’s going to do well in Pennsylvania, isn’t it?” he said.
Next, we have healthcare, one of the top issues for voters this election season. Previously, Harris supported Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) plan for a single-payer system that would eliminate private insurance companies. Essentially, Harris and Sanders support having the government take over healthcare completely and impose a one-size-fits-all solution.
Now, it seems Harris is backing away from that idea. “She is no longer pushing for a single-payer health care system, and on Friday her campaign said she would maintain Mr. Biden’s pledge not to raise income taxes on people making less than $400,000 per year,” The New York Times reported.
What about immigration? Under the Biden administration, she has made her stance clear: Pretend to crack down on the border without actually cracking down on the southern border. However, in the past, she has advocated for disbanding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
When it comes to guns, Harris’ flip-flop wasn’t quite as drastic. In the past, she supported a ban on “assault weapons” and requiring anyone who sells more than five firearms per year to conduct background checks on all customers. She also supported a mandatory federal gun buyback program. Now, she has changed course on the latter, but still wants the former.
It won’t be surprising to see Harris change some of her more radical positions as the campaign rolls forward. But will it work?
Probably not.
Harris extreme leftist positions have already been baked into the cake for years. Anyone who pays attention to politics knows that Harris has far more in common with AOC than with the average voter.
Former President Donald Trump and conservative media will be highlighting her socialist policy preference ad nauseam between now and November. The vice president will not be able to hide from history. If and when Trump debates her, he will be hammering these radical positions all throughout the proceedings.
Also, there is another important point that should not go unaddressed: The fact that she is lying. There is absolutely no way that Harris has had a magical change of heart regarding the policy positions on which she ran during the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries. If she is elected and Democrats take control of the House of Representatives, there can be no doubt that we will be moving even closer to single payer healthcare, a ban on fracking, and onerous gun control laws – and that absolutely nothing will be done to secure our borders.
