An unidentified 18-year-old died after two jet skis collided on Lake Shasta on Saturday afternoon, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office said.
The accident occurred in Shannon Cove, near Sacramento Point, according to a statement made on Facebook by the sheriff’s office on Sunday evening.
Authorities said that sheriff’s deputies with the Boating Safety Unit responded to reports at about 2:44 p.m. on Saturday about the boating collision and learned that two jet skis had crashed on Lake Shasta, resulting in two people being injured.
Deputies arrived and located two injured subjects on the shore — a 19-year-old male with a knee injury and an 18-year-old male with injuries to his chin and face. Deputies learned the two had been operating a jet ski when they were hit by another jet ski being operated by a 21-year-old male who did not require medical attention, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies transported the two victims to Bridge Bay Marina, where medical crews were waiting. Upon arrival at the marina, the 18-year-old man became unresponsive, authorities said. Medical crews began immediate treatment of the victims and transported them to a local hospital.
The 18-year-old victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital, officials said. The victim’s identity is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
The incident remains under investigation by the Boating Safety Unit, according to the statement by Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tim Mapes.
