As RedState reported earlier, House Republicans voted for Donald Trump-backed Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) to retain the speakership role on the first ballot after there were some initial doubts (due to a few holdouts) about whether he would be able to do so.
After two of the holdouts, Reps. Keith Self (R-TX) and Ralph Norman (R-SC), flipped, the final vote was 218-215-1. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) was the lone dissenter on the Republican side, voting instead for Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN).
Though the GOP process was not without a few hiccups and a bit of intrigue sprinkled in for good measure after the President-Elect got involved, the Democrat side of the aisle had its dramatic moments as well, namely when House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) uttered what was probably the first instance of the use of the word “fart” on the floor of the U.S. House in American history.
“We will fart hard, fight hard, for the freedom to vote!” Jeffries bizarrely proclaimed to his fellow Democrats, while also hilariously declaring, “There are no election deniers on our side of the aisle,” even though Jeffries himself is, in fact, a documented hardcore election denier on par with twice-failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) fresh off of making a fool of himself on the Twitter/X machine, was no doubt proud of the “fart” moment – all things considered.
While Jeffries’ oopsie about “farts” is understandably getting a lot of attention on social media, another embarrassing moment from Friday’s Speaker vote was in how one Democrat House member chose to celebrate Jeffries’ purported leadership.
Rep. Jonathan Jackson represents Illinois’ First Congressional District, and on Friday he officially started his second term in Congress.
Jackson was eager to express his support for Jeffries after he was nominated for the Speaker position by his fellow Democrats, so eager in fact that the picture Jackson posted to show his solidarity was… of himself and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ):

Just minutes later, Jackson smashed the delete button on the tweet and posted the right picture soon after:

They say the “Internet is forever,” and unfortunately for Jackson, that is definitely the case here.
All of that said, I’m inclined to give Jackson a bit of grace here. I mean, let’s face it, if I was a Democrat I wouldn’t be too eager, either, to post a picture of myself standing next to the guy who just said he and his colleagues would “fart hard” in the next session of Congress.
Right? You gotta draw a line somewhere, after all …
