The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents:
SPEEDING VIOLATION: On Jan. 25, Cpl. Baer Schiffer was patrolling about 6 a.m. on U.S. Highway 78 when he clocked a Honda Crosstour traveling at 90 mph and he noticed a brake light was not working. The 24-year-old Atlanta resident did not have a license and only a Guatemalan identification card. He was taken to jail.
MAN ARRESTED: On Jan. 26, Deputy Danial White was dispatched about 3:35 p.m. to the Chick-fil-A on Epps Bridge Parkway after a man was seen hitting the windows. The deputy questioned the 37-year-old Royston man, who said he was trying to get some water. The restaurant was closed because it was Sunday. The man, who was wanted on a warrant from Clarke County, was transported to jail.
DRIVING DISPUTE: On Jan. 26, Deputy Jonathan Strum was dispatched to Elder Road for a dispute between a resident and a driver for Amazon. The 56-year-old man said he observed the truck traveling at a high rate of speed and he got into his ATV and drove to the truck. He said he asked the woman to stop her speeding and she replied that she “didn’t have time for this.” He also claimed he was hit by her truck as she tried to leave. The 24-year-old woman from Lawrenceville said she was delivering a package when the man confronted her. He was angry and accused her of speeding, then he blocked her truck from leaving. The man was placed under arrest for false imprisonment.
DUI CHARGED: On Jan. 27, Deputy Boris Argueta was dispatched to a collision between two motorists on Jimmy Daniel Road. A 47-year-old Oconee man reported he had slowed to turn onto Meriweather Drive, when his vehicle was rearended by a Ford Explorer. The Ford driver, a 53-year-old Watkinsville man, reported that when he pressed his brake, his vehicle slid on the wet road. The officer smelled alcohol on the man and after roadside tests and an intoximeter reading, he was charged with DUI and following too close. Some Jim Beam whiskey was found in the vehicle and the man admitted to having a few shots.

WADS OF MONEY: On Jan. 30, Deputy Danial White along with Deputy Dylan Pulliam were patrolling on U.S. Highway 78 when a check on a 2007 Lexus showed the owner had a suspended license. After he was stopped and arrested for being unlicensed, the officer searched him and found three wads of money secured by rubber bands. The numerous denominations of bills, including fifty $100 bills, amounted to $6,812. Officers also found some pills including oxycodone and methadone. The 45-year-old Covington man was also charged with possession of the pills.
GRANDMOTHER DEFRAUDED: On Jan. 30, officials at a bank asked Investigator Matt Pilcher to conduct a welfare check on a 77-year-old woman due to numerous charges on her banking account. The officer obtained a subpoena and determined the woman’s savings had been reduced from $80,000 to one cent. The woman admitted she was fearful of her 18-year-old grandson who used the money for various expenditures. The deputy obtained a warrant for exploitation and intimidation of an elderly person and damage to property. Damage was also found at the woman’s home. Pilcher and four deputies returned to the house with the warrants and took the teenager into custody.
FAKE NAME: On Jan. 31, Deputy William Lewis and Cpl. Lex Ogan were patrolling on U.S. Highway 78 when they ran the tag on a Ford Explorer and found the owner had a suspended license. After a stop, the woman said she didn’t have her license but she provided a name and date of birth. A check on the name showed the driver did not match that person. As the deputy was placing her under arrest, she questioned his actions and jerked away. He explained she was not the person she claimed to be. She also denied having a suspended license. However, she finally identified herself as a 43-year-old Social Circle woman. She had identified herself as a 44-year-old Jefferson woman, whom she would describe as her friend. The friend was contacted and informed of the identify fraud.
WOMAN CHOKED: On Feb. 2, Deputy Robert McCannon and four other deputies arrived at a home on South Burson Avenue in Bogart, where a 29-year-old woman reported she was choked and assaulted by a 45-year-old woman. The dispute occurred over the younger woman leaving her small child at the home, then going to Atlanta to go skating. The younger woman had injuries to her face and neck. The suspect was charged with aggravated assault.
