Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the ATP Tour Finals with “ongoing injury,” bringing his 2024 season to a close.

Djokovic confirmed his absence on Instagram Tuesday, writing that “It’s quite an honor to qualify for the Nitto ATP Tour Finals in Turin.

“I was really looking forward to being there, but due to ongoing injury I won’t be playing next week.”

Djokovic is the defending champion, and will drop 1,300 ranking points in missing the event. He was defending champion at last week’s Paris Masters, from which he also withdrew, losing 1,000 ranking points in the process.

Djokovic’s season ends without an ATP Tour title for the first time since 2005, and without a Grand Slam title for the first time since 2017. He won the one major prize in tennis that had eluded him in the summer by beating Carlos Alcaraz in Paris for the Olympic gold medal in singles, but lost to Alcaraz in straight sets in the Wimbledon final. Jannik Sinner beat him at the Australian Open, before a torn medial meniscus forced him out of the French Open; he crashed out of the U.S. Open to Alexei Popyrin of Australia.

Djokovic’s withdrawal lessens the pressure on Casper Ruud, Alex De Minaur, and Andrey Rublev, who entered this week in a shootout for the final two spots at the Tour Finals. Djokovic’s absence means all three qualify for the event, which begins November 10; Grigor Dimitrov and Stefanos Tsitsipas will be alternates in case of any withdrawals.
