Norwich City are exploring a deal to sign Real Madrid midfielder Reinier Jesus on loan.

The Brazilian playmaker is one of a number of potential options being considered by the Championship club as they look to add reinforcements to head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup’s squad.

Any potential deal could include an option to buy, although the exact terms are yet to be finalised.

Such a clause has never been included in a deal involving Reinier, with his previous spells at Borussia Dortmund, Girona and Frosinome all being straight loans.

Madrid would also offer to cover a significant portion of the 22-year-old’s wages in the event of a deal being agreed.

He completed pre-season with Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s reserve team that plays in Primera RFEF (the Spanish third tier) and the team’s head coach Raul is trying to convince Reinier to remain with the club this summer.

Reinier was sent to Dortmund on a two-year loan deal shortly after joining Madrid, and he played 39 times for the Bundesliga club, scoring once.

A loan move to Girona followed in 2022, and he made 18 La Liga appearances but missed four months of action through injury.

Reinier spent last season on loan at Serie A side Frosinome where he made 23 appearances in all competitions, providing three goals and two assists.

Norwich have this summer sold Reinier’s compatriot Gabriel Sara to Galatasaray for £15million and Republic of Ireland striker Adam Idah to Celtic for £8.5m.

The Carrow Road club finished sixth in the Championship last season and were beaten in the play-offs by Leeds United.

Thorup was appointed the club’s new head coach this summer and they have begun the season with a 2-0 defeat to Oxford United and a draw with Blackburn Rovers.
