WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — A new restaurant is in the works near The Village at University of Michigan Health-West in Wyoming.

Palomino’s is planned for 5980 Metro Way off of Byron Center Avenue, near the southwest corner of the University of Michigan Health-West Campus. It’s a project from the owners of nearby Little Mexico.

“This (hospital) campus is built with a high level of excellency,” said Brian Halblaub, the owner of CBH Building & Development, which is working on the project. “They (the Little Mexico owners) just wanted to expand their business and they felt like continuing in the city (of) Wyoming was a great place to do it.”

Palomino’s will offer Mexican cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Halblaub said the project team expects that will attract customers from the hospital and a nearby hotel.

The two-story restaurant will have space on the second floor for smaller special events. The second floor will also have a space that overlooks the bar below.

There will also be an indoor-outdoor covered patio with a fireplace and an uncovered patio for the spring and summer months.

“I think it’s going to be a pretty versatile space,” Halblaub said. “(It will) hopefully be really comfortable and a welcoming environment.”

The team has gotten approval from the city for the project. The design process is done, and they’re working on the final steps before construction can start.

Halblaub expects ground could be broken on the project in the next 90 days. The goal is to have the doors open by early next year.

Phase two of the project will add a 1,500 square-foot event center.

“It’s pretty busy around here, so having additional services and also parking I think is going to be a really good benefit to the area, to just continue to help supply the need in this area,” Halblaub said. “It’s busy, it’s hopping.”

CBH Building & Development worked on the nearby Bayberry Market, which Little Mexico is located in. He said the restaurateurs approached his team to work on this new project with them.

“We’re super excited and feel very blessed and privileged to be able to be part of helping to build their business,” he said. “That’s the American dream. So when you can see the business is growing, the city is partnering with them to help them get into this location, the financial institutions, it really takes a team. And so I think at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about, is just trying to grow small businesses to service the community. So I think that’s a win-win all the way around.”
