As we reported, President Donald Trump came through on yet another promise to stop the congestion pricing that New York had imposed. New York was charging a $9 fee to enter the city below 60th street, imposing yet another tax/fee on hard-working people. Typical of Democrats, instead of being more efficient or not spending things on illegal aliens, they just wanted to charge the people more. So, the people were ecstatic that Trump stopped such a ridiculous scheme.
Trump declared in a post on Truth Social, “CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!” He revoked federal approval for the tolls that had been permitted through a Federal Highway Administration pilot program under Joe Biden.
As my colleague Bob Hoge pointed out, this may have been a reference to the movie title and/or how popular the move to get rid of the extra fee is.

But either way, it caused a freakout from Gov. Kathy Hochul, as Bob explained. Here’s more of it.

She’s standing there, railing against kings…as she’s acting like a king, actually suing the federal government so she can stomp on her people more.
Imagine the irony of this: trying to whip herself up as a hero and Trump as an oppressor when he’s the one standing up for the people to pay less and not be oppressed by such fees. Who truly is acting like a “king” here? And you wonder why people are fleeing New York. Imagine thinking this makes her look good to the general public. Trump is forcing her to defend the indefensible.
Then again, as Buck Sexton observes, Hochul thinks doing this will help burnish her possibilities within the party for 2028. What does that say about the Democratic Party if that’s true? “Vote for us so we may take more of your money, waste it, and then oppress you more!” But she likely thinks it will bump up her “resistance” credentials. Resistance to sanity.
If what Hochul said wasn’t clueless enough, the State of New York X account doubled down on the ridiculous approach.
