Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) suffered another health scare Wednesday when he reportedly fell down the stairs in the Senate following a vote for HUD Secretary. Little information has come out so far:

This is far from the first time the 82-year-old former majority leader has had a health scare. He also fell in December 2024 and had several strange “freezing” episodes in the last few years as well.

In August 2023, he blanked out while speaking to the press. As RedState’s Bonchie wrote at the time:

A scary scene unfolded amidst all the other news on Wednesday after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell froze up during a presser. After nearly 30 seconds of silence, he was then led away by his colleagues, not seeming to know where he was.

In the December episode, he hurt his face:

Outgoing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) fell over during a Senate lunch on Tuesday and medical staff were quickly called in. Although Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) said McConnell was “fine,” he reportedly had a cut on his face and needed a wheelchair.

It’s the latest in a series of health issues for the 82-year-old, who had a strange “freezing” episode in August of 2023 after appearing to be unaware of where he was in July of that same year.

McConnell’s clout has diminished with his increasing health challenges and the re-emergence of Donald Trump.
