After weeks of defiance over calls for him to drop out of the presidential race, Joe Biden just gave the first real hint that he might be willing to do so.
In several past interviews, Biden insisted that he was the nominee and that nothing but God could force him to withdraw. Yet, in a new interview with BET, the president directly stated that he would drop out if medical professionals advised him to.
The 81-year-old president made the remark in a BET interview taped Tuesday when asked what it would take to prompt him to reconsider his candidacy.
“If I had some medical condition that emerged, if somebody, if doctors came to me and said, you got this problem and that problem,” Biden said in an excerpt released Wednesday.
Video of the exchange was not available as of this writing, but the released excerpt has set the internet on fire. Is Biden creating a path for a “dignified” exit? As I’ve opined before, he very likely has Parkinson’s disease, and that’s backed not just by reporting that a Parkinson’s expert visited the White House ten times but also by the president’s physical appearance. In other words, it’s not like they’d have to make up an ailment.

Biden’s stiff arms and inability to move his hands at times is a hallmark of Parkinson’s disease. There are other motor-related signs as well, but don’t take my word for it. Here’s one Parkinson’s expert who shocked NBC News by saying pretty definitively that Biden has it.

In other words, the setup is already there, and Biden showing some openness to leave the race is pretty shocking this late in the game. That’s especially true when contrasted with what he was saying just days ago.
Notably, this news broke right after Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) publicly called for Biden to leave the race. Further, another report said that Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) visited the president in Delaware over the weekend to ask him to drop out. Is all this just one big coincidence, or is something big afoot? Only time will tell.

With all that said, my money is still, for the moment at least, on Biden staying in the race. There’s now a path for me to be wrong, but I won’t believe Jill Biden will concede the White House until it happens. There is also a long list of handlers who derive their living from Biden who aren’t going to want to go quietly. Further, he can’t simply leave the presidential race. He’d have to resign the presidency as well. After all, how can you be too senile to run for president but not too senile to be president?
The machinations that would need to happen going forward are almost unfathomable. How does a political party completely shift its entire operation behind another candidate in mid-July? That’s never happened before, and then there’s the Kamala Harris issue to deal with. What a disaster for the Democratic Party.
