A lot of people are at the 2025 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland on Thursday, including some of our RedState crew. So, anticipate a lot of interesting stories out of the event. Among the folks who have already spoken/given interviews at the event is Vice President JD Vance.

We reported on some of the powerful remarks that Vance made about masculinity– not to allow the broken culture to dictate to you that you’re bad for being a man. He also conveyed to host Mercedes Schlapp some of the other important goals and efforts of the Trump administration.

Here’s a video of some of the most important things he listed, that they have been doing.  He managed to slip in a humorous — but oh-so-on-target — hit on CNN as well.

Schlapp said she didn’t even think people can keep up with all the things the Trump administration is doing because they are doing so much. “Talk about the shock and awe strategy!” she said.

Vance replied, “Speaking of the press, I do think we’ve had more executive orders than CNN has viewers tonight. So, hello to our friends at CNN.”

Nice call-out shot of how CNN’s ratings have taken a dive into the basement. Part of that is likely because no one–on either side of the aisle–believes what they have to say anymore.

Vance said he thought perhaps CNN was thinking covering (and attacking) Trump could save the network. But the strategy isn’t working this time, “That’s maybe the one thing the president has been unable to do, unable to save CNN’s ratings over the past few months,” the vice president said. Oof, that’s going to leave a mark. But it’s true.

He noted on the “promises kept” list that border crossings are down over 90 percent, and they are only getting started on that. Then the next thing is going back to a growing economy and “drill baby drill.” The third thing is looking into “what are we doing with all the taxpayers’ money” with DOGE, and why are we spending it on things people aren’t aware of and/or don’t want? “Let’s spend the American people’s tax money on the American people’s priority,” Vance said.

How nice it is to have a vice president who doesn’t talk in word salads but indeed who knows what’s going on and can detail how the Trump team is addressing all the problems they have been left and about which the people are concerned. As I wrote about earlier, Vance can even lay out U.S. foreign policy in a blistering exchange with a historian.

Bottom line? Isn’t competence great? He’s building a good record and a lot of support, if he has any eyes on 2028.
