As RedState previously reported, there was what law enforcement officials are calling a “deliberate” attack in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day in New Orleans involving a man ramming a pick-up truck into spectators on Bourbon Street who were ringing in 2025, killing at least ten and injuring scores more.
As we also noted, the FBI’s New Orleans team has suggested this was a terrorist attack and indicated that the suspect, identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, is dead after attempting to engage in a firefight with police officers, two of whom are reportedly in stable condition.
The investigation of this act as a terrorist attack led to some baffling confusion early on within the FBI, which later confirmed that’s what they were treating the attack as.

In the aftermath of the attack and learning that the truck allegedly crossed the Eagle Pass, Texas border in November, GOP politicos are offering condolences to the families, pledging resources, and demanding accountability.
As we noted earlier, President-Elect Donald Trump’s strong remarks condemning the attack stood in sharp contrast to President Joe Biden’s tepid statement.
Here are some other statements from elected Republican officials:
The attack on Bourbon Street this morning was evil.
I’m praying for every victim of this violence and am grateful to all the first responders who rushed toward danger to help the innocent today.
Every resource that law enforcement needs to get answers about this barbaric act…

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX):
My team and I are closely monitoring the atrocity that took place in New Orleans.

Heidi and I are deeply grateful to all the law enforcement and first responders who bravely rushed to the scene and acted in the face of evil. We are continuing to pray for the families and loved ones of the victims.
