Law enforcement officials in Barrow County, Georgia, held another press conference Thursday evening to provide updates on the investigation into the shooting at Apalachee High School Wednesday that left four dead, nine hospitalized, and others injured.

As RedState reported, the shooter was identified as 14-year-old Colt Gray, who had been previously flagged by law enforcement and the FBI after online threats made in May of 2023.

BREAKING: Alleged Apalachee Shooter Was Known to FBI, Made Threats Last Year

Moments before Thursday evening’s press conference, news broke that Gray’s father, 54-year-old Colin Gray, had been arrested and taken into custody.

Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) Director Chris Hosey spoke first and confirmed that Colin Gray had been arrested. Per Hosey, in coordination with District Attorney Brad Smith, GBI has arrested Colin Gray, age 54, in connection with the shooting at Apalachee High School.

Colin Gray is the father of Cole Gray. Colin Gray has been charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. The charges “stem from Mr. Gray knowingly allowing his son to possess a weapon.” Colt Gray has been charged with four counts of felony murder

Following Hosey’s remarks, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith addressed the media and reiterated his call to lift up the community, the students, teachers, and their families. He stated that he was happy to report that all nine of those who were treated at area hospitals following the shooting are expected to make a full recovery, which he notes is a testimony to the response of the medical staff who treated them. Two of the injured were adults/teachers; the other seven were students.

Smith again commended the teachers, who he described as heroes, for standing in the gap to protect the children.
