Within 24 hours of hitting the real estate market, a gorgeous custom-built luxury home on the Sacramento River owned by an NBA player has found a buyer.
Point guard Cory Joseph, who played for the Sacramento Kings from 2019 to 2021, listed the residence for $1.5 million on July 15. Joseph, who has also played for the Golden State Warriors, signed this year with the Orlando Magic. In 2014, he won an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs.
An offer on the waterfront residence has been accepted and is pending, according to listing agent Matthew Hindy, who represents several Kings players and staff.
Hindy, a Realtor with Nick Sadek Sotheby’s International Realty, said the home comes fully furnished right down to the televisions, beds, cutlery and glasses.
The five-bedroom, four-bathroom residence in The Rivers community in West Sacramento spans 3,670 square feet. There’s also a one-bedroom, one-bathroom casita on the quarter-acre lot.
“It’s a really beautiful home,” Hindy said. “It has a nice design, nice charm.”
Hindy didn’t identify the potential buyer, but said he’s a Sacramento-based musician who is interested in using the casita as a music studio “so it kind of catered to exactly what he needed.”
Across from Crawdads
The two-story house, built in 2019, lies in a gated neighborhood — across from Crawdads on the River restaurant — with a private courtyard and meticulous front-yard landscaping. Its modern, open gourmet kitchen features a large island, attractive cabinetry, oversized refrigerator, walk-in pantry and a wet bar.
A sleek staircase leads upstairs where a sizable loft overlooks the scenic backyard river view.
The primary suite is highlighted by panoramic windows that face the river. The bedroom has access to an outdoor balcony. The luxurious primary bathroom includes a sunken tub, separate shower and double sinks.
The outdoor patio and balcony provide a relaxing place for taking in the river setting.
“It has an upstairs balcony,” Hindy said. “When you wake up in the morning, drink some coffee, you see jet skis or boats driving by, so it’s a cool location.“
And it’s exactly what the potential buyer wanted.
“He has been looking strictly to be in this community on the river, and these homes rarely go for sale,” Hindy said. “I think the last was one that I sold about three years ago, and that was Harry Giles’ house.”
Forward Harry Giles III played for the Kings from 2017 to 2020.
“We put the house on the market, the agent showed it the same day, they wrote an offer the next morning, and we went into contract a few hours after that,” Hindy said. “So literally 24 hours pending, which is very strong.”
There’s a reason the home, one of the newest houses built in the West Sacramento community, went into contract so quickly, Sacramento appraiser and housing analyst Ryan Lundquist said.
“This strip of homes is unique in West Sacramento since it’s rare to see units adjacent to the Sacramento River,” he said. “There are only about a dozen homes built out In this location next to the river. Granted, there are over 30 vacant lots waiting to be built out eventually, but for now buyers for this particular location have very limited options for completed homes.”
Highest sale ever for community?
If the property closes at $1.5 million, it will match the highest sale ever in the development, Lundquist said. A nearby unit a few doors down sold for $1.5 million in 2006 before reselling at $1.295 million in 2020.
“Essentially, this property competes toward the top of the price market for the neighborhood,” he said. “It’s actually on the higher end of the price spectrum in all of West Sacramento besides some custom homes built in recent years.”
Since 2020, there have been 29 sales above $1.3 million in West Sacramento, with 24 of them being brand new homes. There have been only 13 sales above $1.5 million and two above $2 million. The highest sale ever in West Sacramento happened in July 2022 at $2.117 million, according to Lundquist.
Joseph’s Rivercrest Drive home is near hiking and biking trails, Golden 1 Center and Sutter Health ballpark, home of the Sacramento River Cats, a minor-league baseball team. Sutter Health Park is where the Major League Baseball franchise Oakland A’s will play beginning in 2025.
“In short, like many areas in the region, luxury homes and price points have emerged in West Sacramento,” Lundquist said.
