Brazilian defender Murillo has signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract with Nottingham Forest.

The deal is a reflection of the rapid progress the 22-year-old has made since joining the club in an £11million move from Corinthians in August 2023.

Murillo has missed only one Premier League game since making his debut for the club just over a month later.

“I’m very thankful and very happy that there are four more years to come. I’m thankful to everyone for the support – not just to me, but to my family as well,” said Murillo.

“Everywhere I go, every shop, wherever it is, they treat my family and I really well. So, I’m very grateful for everything they do for myself and for the team. I’m sure that we’ve got a big future in front of us.”

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis added: “We dream big, and so does he. He believes in the power of what we are doing at this great club. When we share the same bold ambitions, there is no limit to what we can achieve together.”

Murillo has been an integral part of what has evolved into one of the meanest defences in the Premier League.

Forest have kept nine clean sheets in 22 games in the top flight, amid their unexpected rise to third place in the table.

Murillo has made 139 clearances this season, which is the most of any individual in the Premier League, with Everton’s James Tarkowski next with 122.

The one match he missed was at Goodison Park and that was only a precautionary measure after he felt a slight issue during the pre-match warm-up on Merseyside.

Murillo has made 57 starts for Forest overall, forging a solid centre-back partnership with Nikola Milenkovic, after the Serbia international captain joined from Fiorentina for £11m last summer.

He scored his first goal for the club against Newcastle United in November, but has frequently come close to adding to his tally in spectacular fashion.

Forest have won seven of their last eight Premier League games as they have built a push for Champions League football under Nuno Espirito Santo, following two seasons of struggle against relegation.
