The Republican National Convention (RNC) begins in less than a week in Milwaukee, where it’s expected that former President Donald Trump will be officially chosen as the party’s nominee in the November general election. Trump just got a bit of good news, which appears to be tied to the timing of the convention.
Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, has announced it will be easing restrictions on Trump’s accounts on its platforms, in the name of equal “political expression” ahead of the RNC:
Meta announced Friday that it would remove restrictions placed on former President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts ahead of the Republican National Convention next week.
The company said the decision was made to ensure that Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, would have equal standing with Democrat President Joe Biden.
Meta said in a statement:
“In assessing our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe that the American people should be able to hear from the nominees for President on the same basis, “As a result, former President Trump, as the nominee of the Republican Party, will no longer be subject to the heightened suspension penalties.”

The company also admitted that since his account was reinstated in 2023, there was never an instance when those enhanced penalties needed to be used. In any case, it’s unclear whether Trump will enjoy the kindness bestowed on him by Meta, since he sticks to posting on his Truth Social platform these days.
I need to say one last thing. Meta deserves zero credit here. No one in the conservative world has forgotten how Big Tech titans like Meta, Google, and others took great pains to shut down the reach of dissenting political expression to Democrat orthodoxy in the previous presidential cycles. And this injustice isn’t something that’s been squared away in the distant past. Revelations continue to pour out about how much shenanigans went on between the progressive elites in D.C. and these companies to silence the free speech of half of the country. We’ll never forget it.
The European Commission offered 𝕏 an illegal secret deal: if we quietly censored speech without telling anyone, they would not fine us.
The other platforms accepted that deal.
𝕏 did not. https://t.co/4lKsaRsYoA
