While we’re still waiting with bated breath for the Snack Wrap’s rumored comeback at McDonald’s, the golden-arched fast food joint was casually paving the way for another return: the beloved Chicken Big Mac.
The decadent sandwich previously won over fans across the UK and Australia before it was unexpectedly pulled from menus due to supply issues. But now, according to food blogger Snackolator, the Chicken Big Mac is joining US stores sometime in 2024 after a trial run in Miami in 2022.
“McDonald’s is *finally* bringing the Chicken Big Mac to the US this year,” he wrote on Instagram, alongside a promotional photo of the sandwich. The Chicken Big Mac is also exactly what it sounds like: a Big Mac with the beef patties swapped out for two tempura chicken patties instead, the Snackolator reports.
The company’s CEO Chris Kempczinski teased its return in a video just earlier this year, however, he did not specify the exact launch date.
“The chicken [is] gonna start to give [the traditional Big Mac] a run for its money,” Kempczinski said in his own Instagram taste test. “[It has the] same build, so you’ll recognize. We still have three buns, we still have all the lettuce and cheese and of course the McDonald’s Big Mac sauce, but we now have two chicken patties.”
While describing the sandwich, he called it “really good” and raved about the crisp chicken patties. “One of the things I did like about this Chicken Big Mac is the crunchiness of the chicken. The Big Mac sauce works great with it,” he says, before adding that you shouldn’t choose just one. “Choose to buy both. You get a little bit more crunch with [the Chicken Big Mac] but you can’t beat the beef you get with our original.”
Customers were certainly excited about the return. “Chicken Big Mac! Let’s go,” one user commented on social media. “Omg need rn,” another chimed in.
“This oughta be a good one!” a third person said.
