Real Sociedad are in advanced talks to sign Mats Hummels as a free agent.
Hummels, 35, will now decide whether to accept Real Sociedad’s offer, having left Borussia Dortmund following the end of his contract in June. The decision is not a financial one, with Hummels keen to find a good family solution with a child nearing school age.
La Real have been in the market for a centre-back after Spain international Robin Le Normand joined Atletico Madrid earlier this summer.
Hummels has spent his entire club career in Germany so far, winning five Bundesliga titles during two separate spells at Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
The German made 508 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions across two separate spells having made his Bundesliga debut for Bayern.
Hummels spent the 2008-09 season on loan at Dortmund from Bayern before making his move permanent. He went on to become an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s side that won back-to-back German league titles in 2011 and 2012.
Hummels returned to Bayern in 2016 and went on the three consecutive league titles. He has 70 caps for his country and was part of the Germany team that won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Real Sociedad lost their opening La Liga game 2-1 at home against Rayo Vallecano last weekend. They return to action with a trip to Espanyol later today (Saturday).
