Martha Stewart has her sights set on hosting Saturday Night Live after previously being stopped.

After Jimmy Fallon asked Stewart, 83, on the Monday, January 27, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon whether she would be open to the gig, the lifestyle guru replied, “I wanted to and they asked me as I was coming out of Alderson — that camp that I was in for a while — and my parole officer wouldn’t give me the time to do it.”

Stewart was referring to her stint in Alderson Federal Prison in 2004 after she was found guilty on felony charges of conspiracy to obstruct and of making false statements to federal investigators. She was sentenced to five-months in prison and a two-year period of supervised release after leaving prison in March 2005.

“I was allowed to be out of my house eight hours a day,” she said. “And the parole officer said ‘No?’” Fallon, 50, asked, to which Stewart replied, “No. That b——.”

UPDATE, 10/24/24 at 2:56 p.m. ET: The Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) released a statement to Us Weekly denying Martha Stewart’s recent solitary confinement claims. “The Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) does not have solitary confinement units. While some facilities have restrictive housing units, Federal Prison Camp Alderson does not have one,” the statement, released […]

Stewart quipped that she still has the name and phone number of the parole officer before confirming that Lorne Michaels once called to ask her to host. “I’m so pissed,” she continued. “Maybe someday.”

Fallon, for his part, gushed that Stewart would be “fantastic” as the host of the NBC variety show. “Oh I would,” Stewart agreed. “I’d be amazing … start a campaign!”

Fallon pointed out that Stewart has been impersonated nine times — including by Amy Poehler and Kristen Wiig — on Saturday Night Live during the show’s 50 year stint. For Stewart, there was one moment in particular that stood out to her above the others.

David [Spade’s] my favorite. He was wearing my poncho,” Stewart said, adding that it was her “real poncho.”

Martha Stewart celebrated her 83rd birthday on August 3, but she has no plans to slow down. In fact, she’s busier than ever: Her home brand is in demand and her 100th cookbook, Martha Stewart: The Cookbook is out in November. “I try to balance a whole lot,” the mogul told Us while promoting Pure […]

Stewart gushed that she loves when she’s impersonated on the show. “Imitation is the highest form of flattery,” she said. “And you might as well be imitated.”

While Stewart is hoping to host Saturday Night Live one day, she explained that she has her eye on The Traitors after receiving a shout-out from Alan Cumming. But Stewart has not seen the Peacock show.

“I’m trying to watch it, though, now that I heard that [Cumming] wants me to come on, because it would be sort of fun,” she said. “I’m trying to do everything that’s fun. Coming on this show is, like, fun for me.”

Fallon, however, pointed out that Stewart could be “targeted unfairly” on the show due to her A-list status. “They don’t know me in Scotland,” Stewart said, to which Fallon replied, “They know you in Mars. They know you in the universe. You’re Martha Stewart.”
