Manchester United Women have completed the signing of Canada midfielder Simi Awujo.
The 20-year-old has moved to United from the U.S. collegiate system, having represented the University of Southern California’s USC Trojans since 2021.
She has signed a three-year deal that runs until 2027.
“To say that I’m a professional footballer for Manchester United is insane,” Awujo said. “I’m so excited for the season ahead, what the future holds here and just to be a Red Devil.”
Awujo joins United after representing Canada at the 2024 Olympics, with her side overcoming a six-point deduction following a drone spying scandal to progress to the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Germany on penalties.
She was born in Atlanta, Georgia and represented the U.S. at youth level before making her Canada debut against Australia in 2022, aged 18. She has been capped 20 times at international level and was also part of the Canada squad at last summer’s World Cup.

Awujo follows in the footsteps of compatriot Jayde Riviere, who also progressed through the U.S. collegiate system before joining United in January 2023.
“Simi is an exciting young talent who we are delighted has chosen to continue her football journey with us here at Manchester United,” head coach Marc Skinner added. “Our fans can expect a midfielder with international pedigree, who will only develop further in our competitive English game.”
Awujo becomes United’s fifth summer signing following the additions of Anna Sandberg, Elisabeth Terland, Dominique Janssen and Melvine Malard, whose loan move from Lyon has been made permanent.
United finished fifth in the Women’s Super League (WSL) last season and won the FA Cup.
A number of players have departed this summer following the conclusion of their contracts, including goalkeeper Mary Earps, captain Katie Zelem and winger Lucia Garcia. Forward Nikita Parris, meanwhile, has had her contract extended.
Skinner’s side begin the 2024-25 WSL campaign at home to West Ham United.
