Manchester City completed a PFA Player of the Year double on Tuesday night as midfielder Phil Foden and striker Bunny Shaw were named men’s and women’s winners for 2023-24.

Foden, 24, scored 19 goals and provided eight assists to help City clinch an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League title under Pep Guardiola.

Erling Haaland — who won last season’s crown — was one of six nominees, including City midfielder Rodri, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer.

Shaw finished the campaign as the top scorer in the Women’s Super League (WSL) with 21 goals in 18 games for the club, despite having her season prematurely ended by a foot injury in late April.

The Jamaica international becomes the first female City player to scoop the award since Lucy Bronze won the accolade in 2016-17.

Shaw’s Man City team-mates Yui Hasegawa and Lauren Hemp were also nominated, alongside Chelsea’s Niamh Charles, Erin Cuthbert and Lauren James.

Having missed out on the evening’s main award, City academy graduate Cole Palmer was crowned the men’s Young Player of the Year after an outstanding debut campaign at Chelsea.

The England international, who joined Chelsea from City for an initial £40million fee on deadline day in September, led the Premier League in goal contributions with 22 goals and 11 assists.

Palmer beat off competition from fellow nominees Bukayo Saka, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, Joao Pedro and Michael Olise, who recently left Crystal Palace for Bayern Munich. However, there was no place for Palmer in the PFA team of the year.

He becomes the third Chelsea player to win the award after Scott Parker in 2003-04 and Eden Hazard in 2013-14.

Manchester United midfielder Grace Clinton picked up the women’s Young Player of the Year award having starred for Spurs during a season-long loan move.

Clinton scored four goals and added four assists to help Spurs to a sixth place WSL finish and their first ever FA Cup final appearance. She becomes the first Spurs Women’s player to win a PFA award since the launch of the WSL in 2012.

Crysencio Summerville has been named the PFA Championship Player of the Year after providing 20 goals and nine assists in 46 league appearances for Leeds United last season as the club reached the play-off final. The 22-year-old winger joined West Ham United this summer.

Summerville is one of four Leeds players to feature in the Championship team of the season, alongside Illan Meslier, Ethan Ampadu and Archie Gray, who moved to Spurs this summer.

Alfie May was named the PFA League One Player of the Year after finishing as the division’s top scorer with 23 goals for a Charlton Athletic side that finished down in 16th. The striker moved to Birmingham City ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

Notts County winger Jodi Jones was named the PFA League Two Player of the Year after registering 23 assists in 43 appearances last season. Despite their promotion push stalling during the second half of the season and ultimately finishing 14th, Notts County have the joint-most representatives in the team of the season (three) alongside 2023-24 league champions Stockport County.
