What a place to go and watch football the Etihad Stadium is.
Originally built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the City of Manchester Stadium was converted into a purpose-built football stadium at a cost of £40million.
That conversion means it feels much more like a football venue than the London Stadium. Manchester City moved in from 2003 and following the club’s takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, the stadium sits in one of the most impressive football sites in Europe, with the Etihad Campus just across the road.
It is going to get bigger too. Significant redevelopment has begun of the North Stand including a new hotel complex, taking the stadium’s capacity through the 60,000 barrier.
