Manchester City Women have completed the signing of goalkeeper Katie Startup on a permanent deal.

Startup, 25, joined City from Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of last season on an initial emergency six-week loan.

She has now signed a two-year contract with the club through to 2026 and will provide cover for City No 1 Khiara Keating, who appeared in court last month after being charged with possession of the Class C drug nitrous oxide.

Startup said: “It feels great, I’m really excited to be back. A bit longer this time, hopefully, and I’m excited to see what’s next.

“I just knew that when the opportunity did arise, I really enjoyed my time here and I felt really welcome, valued and I settled into the team well.”

City head coach Gareth Taylor added: “Katie’s talent was clear to see during her time with us last season.

“She has the right attitude and mindset to develop herself and help us compete for all honours.”

Startup began her career at Charlton Athletic in 2017 before moving to Brighton three years later.

She made her debut for the south coast club during the 2021-22 season following short-term loan spells at Charlton and Liverpool.

City begin the new Women’s Super League campaign at Arsenal on Saturday, September 22.
