A New Jersey man was killed in a hit-and-run involving “multiple vehicles” Friday night, authorities said.
The incident occurred on the Garden State Parkway in Middletown Township, the New Jersey State Police said Saturday in a news release.
Officials say a Honda Pilot was traveling southbound in the parkway’s express lanes near milepost 112.8 just before 6 p.m. on Friday.
While the Honda was in motion, the front-seat passenger exited the vehicle onto the busy highway.
The passenger, later identified as 33-year-old Jose Cerda-Estevez, of Plainfield, was subsequently hit by “multiple unknown vehicles that failed to stop at the scene,” officials said.
Cerda-Estevez died from his injuries, police said.
It was not immediately clear why he exited the moving vehicle.
State police are now asking for the public’s assistance in the investigation.
Anyone who may have witnessed the vehicles hitting the victim or the events before or afterward is urged to contact the Troop “D” Holmdel Station Detective Bureau at 732-441-4500 ext. 7417.
