Liverpool have received a major boost after a scan revealed that Ibrahima Konate did not break his left wrist in their 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield.

The France international went off in serious discomfort just before the break on Saturday after team-mate Virgil van Dijk accidentally trod on him.

However, following further assessment today (Sunday), Konate has learned he only suffered soft tissue damage. The 25-year-old centre back expects to be available for Tuesday’s home Champions League clash with Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

“Thanks for all the messages of support,” Konate posted on Instagram “My injury isn’t serious thankfully. I had a scan today and it confirmed there is no break. I’ll be ready for the next game. In Sha Allah!”

It will be a source of relief for head coach Arne Slot given Konate’s impressive form so far this season.

Saturday was his ninth successive Premier League start for the club — the longest run of a Liverpool career which has been frequently interrupted by injury setbacks.

”Ibou was in a lot of pain at half-time,” Slot said following the victory over Brighton which took his side back to the top of the Premier League.

“We don’t know (the extent) yet. Let’s hope he can be with us as soon as possible because he had a big impact on our season up until now.”

Konate has started nine of Liverpool’s 10 Premier League matches this season after being introduced as a half-time substitute during the victory over Ipswich Town in their opening match of the campaign.

He has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring twice.
