Liverpool head coach Arne Slot could be on the touchline for the weekend’s visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers despite receiving a red card after Wednesday’s draw with Everton.
The Dutchman went up to referee Michael Oliver at the final whistle and shook hands after a heated ending to the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park. He was then given a straight red card by Oliver, along with his assistant Sipke Hulshoff.
A since-amended section on the Premier League’s website on Thursday appeared to say Slot would serve a two-game suspension, however the Football Association (FA) is still in the process of reviewing the referee’s report before deciding on what action to take.
Depending on the seriousness of the incident, this could result in a charge, warning, reminder of responsibilities or no further action taken being. The FA has three business days to charge Slot.
Should Slot be charged, Liverpool would then have until close of play on the third business day to provide a response and evidence.
The Liverpool head coach has already served a touchline ban this season after receiving three yellow cards over the course of the campaign, and watched December’s Carabao Cup tie against Southampton from the stands.
When serving a touchline ban, coaches are only permitted to communicate with the dugout via phone or a ‘runner’, and the ban encompasses the period during and after the match too. They are, however, still allowed in the dressing room.

The Briefing – Everton 2 Liverpool 2: Why were Jones, Doucoure and Slot sent off after game?
Liverpool will be without Curtis Jones for Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Wolves following his red card on Wednesday. Jones, alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure, has been given a one-game ban after both were sent off for two bookable offences in second-half stoppage time.
The final Merseyside derby to be held at Goodison Park before Everton move to a site at Bramley Moore-Dock ended in dramatic fashion when Everton defender James Tarkowski fired home an equaliser deep into added time. An extended video assistant referee (VAR) review followed before the goal was confirmed.
This led to celebrations from the home supporters, some of whom spilled onto the pitch, while Everton midfielder Doucoure ran in front of the Liverpool fans. This drew a reaction from Liverpool midfielder Jones, who remonstrated with Doucoure.
There was then an ensuing altercation between both sets of players before Doucoure and Jones received second yellow cards and were sent off. Slot and Hulshoff then received red cards after the final whistle.
After Wednesday’s draw, Liverpool are seven points clear at the top of the Premier League.
