The great Rush Limbaugh uttered many profound statements, but one of them was very simple, “words mean things.” They most certainly do, and the left knows it all too well. That is why they spend a lot of time tweaking the English language and changing the meaning of words. But in the era of “woke,” they have also begun just to erase words that they can’t twist into a new meaning or that they just don’t have any use for. A new law in Massachusetts is putting this ridiculous practice on full display.
A new Massachusetts law replaces the term “mother” with “person who gave birth to the child” and “father” with “other parent.” But God’s design for families doesn’t need to be updated.

In August, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey signed the “Parentage Act” into law. The law mandates that basic terms such as “mother” and “father” that appear on documents like birth certificates or other forms of family law documents be replaced with terms like “person who gave birth to the child” and “other parent.” It appears as if fathers are being done away with as well. The term “paternity” is also being replaced with “parentage,” and the pronoun “his” is being replaced with “theirs.” Since the left has already acknowledged their difficulty in defining what a woman is, the term “woman” is also going away, as is “man” to be replaced with “persons.” Healey said after signing the bill into law:
“Our laws need to reflect the realities of modern families and the loving environments where children grow and flourish. This moment is a victory for all families in Massachusetts who deserve to be treated with dignity and to have their rights recognized and protected under the law. We are grateful to our partners in the Legislature for their leadership in advancing this important legislation, and thankful to all of the advocates who fought for years to make this a reality in Massachusetts.”
Christian Conservative advocacy group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) has called attention to this new law and the fact that it should be truly concerning to Christians, saying:
“As Christians, we understand that both mothers and fathers are needed not only to bring a child into the world but also to provide care and play different roles in the upbringing of young Christ-followers.”
There is a new pending bill in Massachusetts (H4750) that would remove the word “father” on birth certificates in the name of “legal parentage equality.”

Trying to erase the roles of mothers and fathers is a very valid concern for traditional Americans in general. In some situations, of course, single-parent homes are unavoidable, but so is the data. Several studies, including one done in 2021 by Dr. D. Paul Sullins, Associate Professor at The Catholic University of America, showed that children growing up in traditional family environments have better grades in school, better physical and mental health, and less likelihood that they would live in poverty.
But the new law is not about single or two-parent households. It is about changing the language and forcing an agenda. The ADF is also involved in other cases where, if mothers and fathers themselves are not being completely omitted, their parental rights are being slowly removed. In Colorado, the ADF is suing a school district on behalf of a family whose daughter went on a district-sponsored overnight trip, and neither the parents nor their daughter were informed that she would have to share a bed with a transgender student.
It is this changing of the language and the meaning of words that the left has done for decades to align with their agenda that they get away with. They can call mothers and fathers whatever goofy names they want, but it doesn’t change the basic functions of men and women when it comes to having and raising children.
Massachusetts is now among other states, including Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont, with similar laws on the books and could be coming to a blue state near you.
