Leeds United are working on a deal to sign St. Gallen full-back Isaac Schmidt on a permanent basis.
The 24-year-old has been identified as a target for Daniel Farke’s side and a deal between Leeds and the Swiss Super League club is progressing.
Schmidt is a versatile player who can operate in a number of positions, although he has mostly been a full-back in his 107 games for St. Gallen. Farke has been clear since the start of the summer transfer window that he wants to add another full-back for depth.
St. Gallen are in action on Thursday evening in a Europa Conference League play-off clash against Trabzonspor.

Leeds agree deal in principle to sign Japan international Tanaka
Leeds, meanwhile, have denied reports of a cash plus swap deal involving Joel Piroe in exchange for Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer. Piroe joined Leeds last summer and has been an important part of Farke’s squad, usually operating as a supporting striker behind Patrick Bamford or Mateo Joseph.
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder appeared to confirm an offer from Leeds for Hamer and questioned their motives for the bid when speaking to media earlier this week.
Leeds are in the market for a No 10 after the sale of Georginio Rutter to Brighton earlier this month.
