LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A man who had previously been accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from homeowners, including senior citizens has been sentenced.

Guadalupe Derek Carbajal, 43, had been arrested, and accused of collecting approximately $250,000 from homeowners over the course of two years without doing any work.

On Tuesday, Distrcit Court Judge Eric Johnson sentenced Carbajal for the crime of Engaging in Multiple transactions involving Fraud or Deceit in the course of enterprise or occupation; a category B felony.

The judge’s sentence included the following:

  • 12-90 months in the Nevada Department of Corrections (Suspended)

  • 36 months’ probation with a search clause and numerous other conditions

  • Pay a total of $245,264 in restitution

  • Pay $113,534 at sentencing to be distributed to victims that were not covered by the Nevada State Contractors Board Residential Recovery Fund

  • Pay the remainder $131,730 to the Nevada State Contractors Board

Carbajal was arrested by authorities in April, he remains in custody.

He had previously operated Lifetime Power a Las Vegas solar company as a general manager, according to the Nevada State Contractors Board. The NSCB revoked the company’s license in 2023.

The NV State Contractors Board recommends that homeowners get three bids for any work you plan to have a contractor do and to check each license on their website. If the contractor you are considering using is not licensed, the Board advises against using that person or paying that contractor any money.
