Lamine Yamal believes that Barcelona are the “best team in the world” after their 4-0 El Clasico victory over rivals Real Madrid.

Goals from Yamal, Raphinha, and a brace from Robert Lewandowski secured an empathic win for Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night.

Barcelona’s win, which came three days after their 4-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, sees them open up a six-point lead at the top of La Liga ahead of Real Madrid, nine points ahead of third-placed Villarreal.

“We believe we are the best team in the world,” said 17-year-old Yamal. “They said we were beating only normal teams. Now we have beaten Real Madrid 4-0 at their home. We’ve proven that we can beat anyone.”

Hansi Flick has established a resurgent Barcelona side since taking charge of the club in May 2024.

The Spanish side have lost just two of their 14 games in all competitions this season, one of those being after being reduced to ten men against Monaco in the Champions League on September 19.

Yamal has been instrumental to Barcelona’s impressive form this campaign, scoring six goals and providing seven assists in 14 games this season.

They are next in action against Espanyol on November 3.
